well well I´m here after 4 days of travelling
I cant believe that I have eventually made it to Lima. I left home on Wedsnesday afternoon to stay with a friend near Toulouse for the night. Having supper suddenly noticed the snow starting to settle and decided to make a move to a hotel near the airport. Road was still ok and got a bed for the night so that I could walk to the airport if necessary. Arrived at Blagnac at 5.30 am to find the airport closed and masses of people queuing everywhere. Fairly hectic, no one knowing what on earth was happening talk that the airport ñight open at 8am after all there was only about an inch of snow on the ground: 8 am nothing still queuing and talk of airport opening at midday
Eventually got to the end of the queue qnd given a ticket for 16.55
took off for breakfast back at the hotel and a bit of shopping before being dropped back at the airport by my friend round 12.30. A little later announceñment that the airport would remain closed until at least 18h so..........change ticket again...........now nothing available until 9.45 Saturday flight to Madrid followed by flight to Lima:
Phone friend who kindly picked ñme up and took me back to his house for a further night then 3rd night back to Blagnac to stay in hotel again. Different hotel and when I got in the shower no hot water, charmong but as I didnt know when I might get another i had to put up with the cold.
Got to check in and they up graded me on both flights to business class so that was lucky.
Bumped into a friend going to Lille and then met various travellers to Chille, Equador, St Domingo all of which had queued for up to 7 hours together.
Flight to Madrid en schedule despite having seen that it had been closed to snow on the Friday:
Got to Madrid
Raced accross the airport to other terminal flight for Lima on scheduele but chaos in boarding lounge flight from previous day having been cancelled fraught people waiting on standby, sleeping, kids whaling ..........
Flight called and no order at all people pushing and fighting to get to the front of the line, never ever seen such chaos barging pushing it was horrible. People on standby obviously trying to get on but not able...
boarded plane and in business class all seemed ok, served a glass of carva when suddenly after two hours they announced that the plane would not be leaving for Lima after all and we should disembark where upon a riot all but started and everyone refused to leave the plane, knowing that there were 100 others hoping to get on ......it was quite amusing people ringing their embqssies the police ariving : We stayed there for a further 5 hours until they offered to put us up in a hotel and give us the same seats the following day:
Anyway......... met up with a couple going with their canoes to Equador ate supper with them, good nights sleep breakfast and off to the airport by bus for a second attempt:
Anyway I have arrived · days late and a little worn: Taxi collected me at the airport and am spending the night in Lima:
